Okay. So I live in South Dakota, not the most populated state in the country. But what I don’t like about people that come visit here from places like California, New York and other big places like that is that they stereotype us as hicks and rednecks. I’m not saying that everyone who ever comes from those places does stereotype us, but it seems that every person I’ve met from the east or west coast has this image of us that we are dumb, stupid rednecks. Yes there are some people like that here but give me a break! Then there’s also the people who think we are full of bigots, that if you aren’t like us you’re going to get the shit beat out of you. Okay, there are bigots in South Dakota, there are bigots in every state, but not everyone is like that.
Then there are also the people who go to Sioux Falls and say “Wow it’s so small!” when SF has a population of 153,888 people. Seriously?! Sioux Falls is the biggest city in South Dakota, come to where I live if you want small! (Our population is 700 people) People need to realize is that our state being not all that populated is what makes us unique. We have our major attractions like Mount Rushmore and the Badlands out in the Black Hills, but we also have our “hole in the wall” places like the 1880 Town, the Old West Trading Post in Oacoma, the Lewis and Clark museums and so many other places.
So people what I’m trying to say is that before you judge us, come here and have a look at what makes us a great state before you say what makes us a horrible state. That is the end of my rant, I am done and if you read this entire thing, thanks for listening. And I’m sorry if I offended anyone, it was not intentional.
